Hey everyone! I hope you all are doing well on this beautiful Tuesday! Today, I wanted to start off my wedding series with the beautiful Henna Party prior to my wedding. To be honest, the SriLankan-Hindu culture does not follow the Mehndi Party tradition religiously, as most Muslim and Hindu weddings do, but I felt that it was a much needed festivity to start the wedding shenanigans and most importantly, to feel like a bride. My parents did not understand the need for this at start, but who doesn’t like a reason to party? It is quite similar to a Bridal Shower in terms of concept but a bit more traditional.

We hosted this party in my basement and the décor was beautifully done by Mina andJubayer from MJ Décor Services (@mjs_decorservices). Believe it or not, I came across their Kijiji ad and it was probably one of the best things I’ve stumbled upon. Considering the small area they worked with, they provided everything I needed without any hesitation. I absolutely loved the floral-covered frame they added for the back décor. I added a few things here and there with all the Bollywood-ish things I owned to go with the theme. These included the peacock feathers in the back as well as the doll statues and peacock feather vases.

To go with the theme, my family and friends put together a beautiful sweet table. My bff bought the wooden letter blocks from Michaels for the Bridal Shower. They are so cute that I just had to use them again for this party. Mango juice is always a must for the sweets/food so we made sure to have that as well! I bought gold charger plates from Walmart during the Christmas sale. They were incredibly cheap and it went perfectly well with this theme. I came across these plates Premier Housewares Charger Plate – 33 cm – Gold which is just like the ones I used. I set them up in front of the main décor and added colourful plate fillers from Dollarama and topped them up with my bangles. It is probably one of the easiest DIY decors to do.

We also came across this Pinterest inspiration of daal cones and had to recreate them. They are clear cellophane cone bags in which you can fill your goodies with and because it was a henna party with henna cones, they were just PERFECT! Check out Aspire Cone Shaped Treat & Favor Bags 7.1″ x 14.6″ Cellophane Bags, Pack of 100-Clear-1 bag. Simple decor at its finest!

My wedding henna was done by talented Annam (@amirashennaboutique). Annam did such an incredible job on my henna. She has a great attention to detail and she is extremely talented. Henna tattoos are all natural and the stain tends to last about 2-4 weeks. I’ve actually heard of a belief that the darker the colour the Mehndi leaves on the hands on a bride, the more will she be loved by her husband. Let’s just say, my stain survived a great amount of time. I also got her to put my husband’s initials hidden on one hand and made sure he had to find them. I love my dad so much, so I put his initials on the other hand as well. 🙂 I’ve also heard that the main significance of mehndi, is that it is a very powerful medicinal herb. Since weddings tend to be stressful, in which leads to headaches, mehndi application can prevent too much stress because it cools the body and keeps the nerves from becoming tense. So applying henna, houses nerve endings in the body. Beauty with a significance! Cool right?

I also wanted my family and friends to share the day with me and get their henna game on, and so, we hired another henna artist to join in on the fun. To be honest, I was not sure if everyone would be interested to do this, but the turnout was great! Keera (@wavesofcolour), is another beautiful soul I met that day and I am so happy I was introduced to her. She provided beautiful henna for everyone that attended and wanted to have it done. My mother even got her henna done, and my dad just pretended his was there as well haha.

My outfit as well as my sisters’ outfits were from Pothys (@pothysofficial), in which I bought during my visit in Chennai in TNAGAR. My makeup was done by my talented bff as well.  My now husband, found it super weird to attend a henna party but at the end, it looked like he had so much more fun than anyone else haha. Henna parties don’t have to be just for girls, so I made sure to break this stigma and have all the important men in my family attend as well.

All of these beautiful shots were taken by our event photographer Vinsia (@vinsia). She is one of the humblest people I’ve ever worked with till this date. She provided careful insight to ensure that I got the best shots for both my Bridal Shower and Mehndi Party. She captured such amazing moments and I couldn’t be any happier that I will continue to adore these pictures as they days go on.
